Examiner's note. Link position to structure: the group number = the number of outer-shell electrons and the period number = the number of occupied shells. For a prediction, quote the trend and extend it: Group VII melting points increase down the group, so astatine is a solid at r.t.p. The classic slip is saying noble gases are unreactive because they are “stable”: say they have a full outer shell, so they do not need to lose, gain or share electrons.
