Faecal-Oral Route

What is Faecal-Oral Route?

A route of transmission in which pathogens from the gut of an infected person reach the mouth of another, usually by way of contaminated water, food, hands or surfaces. It is interrupted at the source by safe disposal of faeces and sewage treatment, and near the mouth by treated drinking water, handwashing and hygienic food preparation.
