Autocratic Leadership
What is Autocratic Leadership?
A leadership style in which the leader makes decisions alone, with little or no consultation, and communicates them downward as instructions. It produces fast, consistent decisions and clear direction, which suits emergencies, safety-critical work and inexperienced employees, but it makes little use of employees' knowledge, tends to produce low ownership of decisions and can demotivate skilled staff who expect to be consulted.
