Internal Recruitment
What is Internal Recruitment?
Filling a vacancy from among the people a business already employs, for example by promotion or transfer. It is usually quicker and cheaper than recruiting externally, the candidate's work is already known and needs less induction, and the prospect of promotion motivates the wider workforce. Its limitations are a smaller pool of applicants, no new skills or ideas entering the business, and the fact that promoting someone creates a second vacancy that still has to be filled.
This definition is part of the People in Business chapter in Cambridge O Level Business Studies.
