Legal Controls over Employment
What is Legal Controls over Employment?
Laws that regulate the relationship between an employer and its employees. The areas commonly covered are employment contracts, protection against unfair dismissal, protection against discrimination, health and safety at work, and a legal minimum wage. They raise costs and reduce an employer's freedom of action, but they also protect employees, reduce accidents, prevent businesses from competing by undercutting standards, and can improve retention, trust and productivity. The detail of these laws differs between countries, so an answer should analyse the type of control described in the case rather than assume any particular country's rules.
